Faculty/Staff Bios - Jiafei Yin

Jiafei Yin, 49, started teaching at Central Michigan University in 1996. Yin received her doctorate and master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and her bachelor’s degree in English and American literature from the Nanjing University in China. Yin taught both skills and lecture courses mainly in the area of news editorial and international communication, including news writing, editing, American media history, information gathering for the media and international and cross-cultural communication. Her research interest focuses on the areas of international and cross cultural communication, more specifically topics concerning theories of world press systems, press freedom in Asia, the changing media in China and the coverage of international news. She published book chapters and journal articles in national and international publications and presented research papers at national and international conferences . She was a 2003 fellow at the Institute for Journalism Excellence sponsored by the American Society of Newspaper Editors. She conducted seminars in Hong Kong and Beijing for the staff of the China Daily, China’s only national English-language daily newspaper, where she had worked for 10 years. She has started an exchange program between her department and the China Daily in Beijing.
